We are currently seeking qualified candidates for a Senior Director, Regional Head of Sales role with the chemistry division of a leading multinational chemicals, biopharmaceutical and biotechnology company. This is a permanent position that can be based out of any of the company’s European facilities.
PURPOSE
The Senior Director will proactively lead and develop a high-performing customer-focused sales team to deliver year-on-year revenue and pipeline targets to support achievement of the Company’s business goals.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Build and sustain strong customer relationships to support the development, execution and delivery of business unit (BU) strategies and tactical business goals
- Manage the deployment of the regional sales team resources and provide resource support to Global Account Managers (GAMs) to execute the BU strategies and account strategies to deliver business goals
- Actively engage with BU Commercial Development and Licensing Teams to align and manage the sales pipelines by technology to secure new customers and grow the account portfolio
- Liaise with appropriate GAMs to ensure alignment between their global strategies and regional sales plans
- Act as a point of escalation and business support to the BU teams, GAM’s and regional sales teams to facilitate creative resolution of significant obstacles to positive customer relationships and/or securing new business
- Facilitate regional sales team development through effective recruitment, coaching, mentoring and training to increase the capability of the sales team to close deals
- Continuously develop and optimise sales processes ensuring internal process are also improved and aligned to deliver a positive customer experience when interacting with the Company
- Establish management control measures and disciplines to deliver target revenues, understand account profitability, and where appropriate develop actionable profit improvement strategies
- Ensure that standard sales processes and disciplines are executed by regional sales teams to support more effective deal closing
- Actively lead or support major proposals and contract negotiation processes to close deals effectively and maximise margin”
- Identify and exploit synergies across different technologies and services offered by the BU’s to support new sales growth opportunities
- Maintain relevant market and competitive environment awareness to support development of robust sales strategies and action plans
EDUCATION, SKILLS & EXPERIENCE
- BSc and/or MSc, PhD preferred – Life Science discipline such Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Chemistry
- Proven CDMO Pharma services sales experience of >10 years in either bulk drug substance or drug product areas.
- Sales team management track record of >3 years, preferably in the Pharma CDMO market
- Experience of working in a large multicultural organisation
- Preferred but not required: Experience working in non-sales position such as Commercial Development, Program management, Technical role
- Understanding of the Pharma and Biotech landscape within the geographic region to be covered in the role.
- Understanding of the pharmaceutical drug development and regulatory approval process, the supply chain and related manufacturing requirements.
- Proficiency in principles of contract law, including general understanding of laws that influence contract language, such as business, intellectual property, and tax.
