We are currently seeking qualified candidates for a Director of Business Development role with a global biotechnology company specialising in antibodies and related products. This is a permanent position that will be based out of Cambridge, United Kingdom.
PURPOSE
The Director of Business Development is dedicated to driving revenue growth and expanding the use of the Company’s product portfolio and service capabilities at key Pharmaceutical, Biotechnology, CRO and Diagnostic companies across the globe. They will have a broad remit to negotiate, draft, and secure major supply, collaboration, and out-licensing partnership agreements for research, diagnostic, and therapeutic applications of the Company’s products and technologies.
The Director of Business Development will combine scientific and commercial expertise to proactively support the Company’s strategy. They will target key companies to develop deep relationships that enhance the Company’s global reputation as the leading partner for development, supply, and licensing of research and diagnostics affinity reagents. The role will require strategic planning and analysis, scouting for scientific collaboration opportunities, attending partnering events, negotiating deals, and working closely with internal teams to drive the growth of the Company’s catalogue and custom services businesses at strategic commercial accounts.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Manage a portfolio of strategic partners, and lead ideation for new partnership opportunities based on detailed analysis of the Company’s capabilities and its positioning within the evolving scientific and business landscape.
- Establish and grow the Company’s strategic partnering activities by serving as the primary initiator, driver, and closer of high-value business relationships.
- Build a robust pipeline of high-quality, actionable opportunities that achieve annual revenue and margin targets for selected accounts.
- Develop and deliver impactful presentations to key prospects and stakeholders.
- Coordinate the development of pitch decks and run the process of external engagement for out-licensing opportunities.
- Lead cross-functional teams in opportunity assessment, and deploy robust financial modelling and analyses to value projects and terms as deal process milestones are met (e.g., term sheet drafting, contract negotiation and execution, post-closing value projections).
EDUCATION, SKILLS & EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s degree in scientific field. MBA and/or PhD preferred.
- Fundamental understanding of drug discovery and development, and exposure to the Company’s therapeutic areas of interest.
- Three or more years of business development experience in the pharmaceutical/biotechnology industry with a track record of successful commercial transactions (preferred focus: biomarker applications in the drug discovery and diagnostics industries). Deal sheet required.
- Significant experience drafting and negotiating confidential disclosure agreements (CDAs), term sheets, and other agreements (licensing, MTA, co-development, etc).
- Ability to develop and use complex financial models to make decisions.
- Highly motivated and self-starter who thrives in a fast-paced environment and is able to exercise keen judgement in the course of navigating open-ended situations with a high degree of independence.
- Strong presentation skills and comfortable with C-level executive audiences.
- Ability to travel as required.
