We are currently seeking qualified candidates for a European Business Development Manager role with a leading provider of chemical and manufacturing solutions for the pharmaceutical and biopharmaceutical industries. This is a permanent position that can be based out of the United Kingdom, Germany or Switzerland.
PURPOSE
The Business Development Manager will focus on selling contract research and manufacturing services and advanced intermediates production. The BDM will be responsible for expanding the customer portfolio by actively prospecting the territory of Northern Europe.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- In close collaboration with the line manager, fine tune the strategy to develop the territory and identify new targets.
- Establish a visit plan of prospects and existing customers, share the updated action plan on a quarterly base.
- Generate interest in the Company and initiate the RFP process.
- Follow up the RFP process: leading the preparation of the quote, making sure it is well scoped and working in close collaboration with the technical team in India.
- Discuss, convince, and negotiate with customer to get POs according to global margin directive given by the Sales Management to meet assigned annual budget.
- In collaboration with the management, negotiate and finalize contracts (MSAs or SAs) for development or manufacturing work.
- Follow up all the marketing trends and ensure a market survey on direct competitor activities on a yearly basis in order to identify future trends.
EDUCATION, SKILLS & EXPERIENCE
- Possess a degree (BA or BSc) in a life science discipline, preferably chemistry or chemical engineering.
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience within the pharmaceutical sector or in the life science industries
- In-depth understanding of the pharmaceutical industry and its drug development processes.
- A demonstrated track record of sales in a competitive environment would be an advantage as well as wide exposure within the pharmaceutical industry to companies focusing on drug development.
- Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills.
- Credible to pharmaceutical industry senior management.
- Good negotiation skills.
- Self-starter. Can work well in a highly structured environment. Can independently establish and meet personal daily goals in support of overall marketing plan.
- Comfortable with cold-calling and establishing new relationships. Not intimidated or put-off by rejection.
- Ability to work effectively in a multi-functional and multi-cultural team.
- Entrepreneurial approach.
- Good presentation and communication skills.
- Fluent in English; fluency in other languages an advantage.
- Requires significant travel (60%) for client visits, attendance to events and others.
- Candidate needs to be a self-starter and able to work from a home office.
